Palms, Pineapples and Peonies 1, 2 from Virtual Quilter

My favourite thing about today’s designs are the backgrounds … pieced together from random light fabrics. I have a stash of background fabrics just waiting to be cut up and joined together into squares, which will then probably have to wait again for the applique.

Local weather here could use a touch of the tropics … crops should be green and growing, instead they are brown rather than the gold of ripe crops. A bit of tropical rain could at least get feed growing for stock even if it is too late for crops for human consumption.

Alphabet 1 a, b, c from Virtual Quilter

I love my favourite toy … Electric Quilt 8.

Start with a mixed up collection of letters … check that there are twenty six different ones for a serve of alphabet soup!

Sort them into alphabetical order and add capitals and you have a quilt design for a kindy kid.

Use the letters in a border …

… and use it to frame A Bear in a Cart! Easy as ABC!

Watchin’ Grass Grow 1, 2 from Virtual Quilter

I started this project file ages ago, with the intention of adding a flower to the centre of each cluster of green leaves, or adding a flower to the centre leaf of each bunch of leaves. The grass has not yet flowered, but in my garden at the moment a lot of the weeds are producing seeds for net years crop!

While waiting for the moment I find incentive to add flowers, I thought I would share the grassy patches before they die back … but the might look interesting in the many shades of yellow and gold of dry grass.

Annie Pavlova 1, 2 from Virtual Quilter

This is a new colourway, with some new block variations, of the Anna Pavlova project. I have been playing with this, and a few other project files, which have been sitting in my Electric Quilt folders for quite some time.

The old projects are new again!

I hope I never find a cure for my addiction to designing quilts … but I should spend more time at least finishing some real ones!

Beth’s Brunsvigia Quilts 33, 34 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting flowers, from bulbs which burst out of the ground before the foliage.

My favourite today is the second design.

Ferns and Flora in Possum Park 1, 2 from Virtual Quilter

This project file must have got lost under a pile of ironing … I played with it for a while, but then hid it away several years ago! Amazing what you find when you are looking for something else.

Not many designs in the file yet, but now I have it open I will spend some time playing! I love both designs, and the colours too.

Ooops! I got carried away playing with the designs, and forgot to press the schedule button, which means you get two posts today.

Floppy Petals 7, 8 from Virtual Quilter

Yesterday’s designs were fiddly … these are too, but they would be pretty on the bed.

The first design was a fee range garden, the second design a much more formal garden.

Bush Flora Blocks 7, 8 from Virtual Quilter

Pale and pretty!

The colours in these designs are more like an English country garden than the colours found in much of the Australian bush.

The shapes are based on Australian native flowers, but the colours have been softened to pretty pastels. A lot of our native flora are bright red, orange and yellow and often have very dark green or rather grey foliage, but there are some with pretty colour variations in contrast to the bright strong colours.

Iron Lace Borders Q’n’A 19, 20 from Virtual Quilter

Only one border, and the whole quilt has only a few applique blocks, and the other blocks are quilted. I think i would applique the whole of the outer row of blocks leaving just four blocks to be just quilted.

Only parts of one border are applique, the rest of the two borders are quilted only. With all the designs in this project file the quilt only areas could be appliqued, but I like to see some areas of any quilt with quilting designs which are based on both pieced and applique designs filling some of the blank spaces.

Fiddling with Fabric 11, 12 from Virtual Quilter

I love fiddling with fabric, making clothes, rag dolls, Christmas tree decorations, even a Christmas tree or two, as well as fiddling with designs for all of the above, and beads and buttons …. a fiddling addict!

Sometimes I actually finish a real quilt, but as I prefer hand work that is not an every day occurrence!
